| Congratulations From Staff |
 |
At the completion of the first
advanced laparoscopy session at Bayview hospital,
the nursing/technical staff was elated at what
had been accomplished and congratulated the major
players. All procedures were completed
safely. There were no complications and no
conversions to open surgery. Patients were discharged
home with smiles because of minimal pain, small scars,
and expectation for a short recovery period.

CariGES Launches
Advanced Gyn
Laparoscopy in Barbados
The launching of
advanced gynaecologic
endoscopy in Barbados on
Tuesday November 3 was
an outstanding event.
Dr. J. Eltora Bennett
was the principal
architect. She had
attended the November
2008 laparoscopy
training session at
Tapion hospital in St.
Lucia. At each of the
subsequent four sessions
her patients accompanied
her to receive
laparoscopic management
of their fibroids in
order to have less
post-operative pain and
a quicker recovery. But
Dr. Bennett who was
aware of her patients’
reluctance to make the
trip to St. Lucia
decided to provide the
services at Bayview
Hospital in Barbados. So
after completing the
sixth session in St.
Lucia, Dr. Bennett and
her colleague Dr.
Geoffrey LaFond formed
the company CariGES to
do just that. She had
made comprehensive
preparations that
included Bayview
hospital management and
staff, the Government
sector, the Insurance
Industry, professional
colleagues, friends and
the media. The
ceremonial function was
held at the Sandy Lane
Hotel!

A Successful Trip To An
Unlikely Island
A gynaecologist relates her
unique experience.
By Dr. J Eltora Bennett
When Dr. Trona
Bennett (not one of my
relatives!) asked me to
attend a laparoscopic
program in St. Lucia, I
thought that it was
another one of those
sessions where I would
listen to another
egotist telling stories
of what he could
accomplish with a
laparoscope and that I
would walk away with no
heightened interest in
performing any of those
surgical gymnastics
myself. However I
knew Trona and trusted
her judgment therefore I
decided to attend.
In November 2008, I
traveled to St. Lucia to
attend the first of what
was to become a series
of laparoscopic training
sessions at Tapion
hospital, organized by
Dr. Trona Bennett and
conducted by Dr. John
George.
